About Buckhorn Retreat

Our retreat is...
the former Buckhorn Tavern, now a completely remodeled spacious vacation cottage privately located on 30 acres in the beautiful Chequamegon National Forest. Even though this is a very modern non-smoking facility, it is filled with country charm and a few antiques. Our sun porch has been designated as a smoking area.

For your comfort...
we provide an outside security light, central heat, a fully equipped kitchen with gas range, refrigerator, microwave, dishes, towels; everything you need for cooking and eating. Automatic washer and dryer also furnished.

The Great Room...
has wall to wall carpeting with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the free standing gas fireplace or TV. Off the Great Room is a comfortable three season porch overlooking the pristine forest, home of northwoods wildlife. See the deer grazing, hear the birds singing. Kick back, enjoy the peace and serenity.

Within the retreat...
you will find ample sleeping space for up to 10 people with two large bedrooms, each with two double beds and a queen-sized sofa sleeper in the Great Room (linens furnished). There are one and a half  baths, one includes tub/shower unit. Bath towels are furnished.

Enjoy the outdoors...
on our new deck and grill your favorite food or make use of the outdoor fire pit for hours of campfire fun. You can roast marshmallows, enjoy the fresh, clean air and the occasional display of northern lights. Take a stroll to Camp C Creek.  National Forest beach and picnic area is only minutes away on Newman Lake.

Great fishing and hunting...
can be enjoyed when surrounded by dozens of lakes within a few minutes drive and stocked with a variety of fish, plus the Turtle Flambeau Flowage for a real adventure. You will find over 800,000 acres of national forest land open to the public for deer, ruffed grouse, duck and bear hunting. Park Falls is known as the Ruffed Grouse Capital of the World for good reason.

For ATV/Snowmobilers...
trail 105 part of the Flambeau Trail System is outside your door giving you direct access to over 500 miles of well groomed trails, offering an exciting ride each and every time for novice and skilled riders. These same trails can be used for hiking and biking! Take in the breath-taking scenery while you sport your skills.

Cross country skiing...
is enjoyed on miles of groomed, tracked trails for every skill level. Newman Springs Ski Area is just 2 miles away.
