Welcome To The Buckhorn Retreat Park Falls, Wisconsin - Vacation Lodge
In the Heart of the Chequamegon National Forest near Minocqua and Mercer Wisconsin
The Buckhorn Retreat history started in the middle 20's when a small tavern was opened at the junction of Camp C Creek and County Highway G (Now State Highway 182) near Park Falls Wisconsin. Living quarters were built on around 1930, and a partial basement added in 1934. Outdoor plumbing was still used at that time. The old picture (right) was taken about 1932. The gas pumps in the photo were installed by the current owner's grandfather about 1929. The forest around was completely harvested and fires plagued the cut-over land.
The original Buckhorn Tavern was a gathering spot for sportsmen for all of its history. Anyone bagging a trophy buck or large fish just naturally went there first to show and brag while slaking their thirst, and refueling their vehicle as well.
